Nazareth Guild Trivia Video – Starring Eric Rhode
Thursday’s Trivia is brought to you from Walla Walla. Eric Rhode is a Jr High and High school teacher at Assumption and DeSales Catholic schools (aka Walla Walla Catholic Schools). Mr. Rhode is a Jack of all trades, so to speak. He teaches several different classes at WWCS; Journalism, Theatre Arts, and Computer Science – PHEW, he is a busy man.
DeSales has three 3D printers that students get to use. Mr. Rhode explained about how the printer works. Plans are designed from a program on the computer. Once the program is loaded, it gets sent directly to the 3D printer. A spool of plastic filament is placed into an extractor. The extractor is hot and melts the plastic, which falls onto the template that is on the base.
As we all know, all schools have been closed because of the Shelter in Place from COVID 19. However, the schools in Walla Walla are helping their community by using the 3D printer. They are making plastic straps. These plastic straps were designed by a boy scout from the East Coast. His idea was to help medical workers by eliminating the pain caused by the elastic straps from wearing a protective mask all day. Instead of wearing the elastic straps behind your ears, the plastic piece fits like a hat behind the head, and the elastic straps clip onto the plastic part, helping to keep the mask secure.
Two DeSales students in Mr. Rhode’s computer science class have been taking turns helping to produce the plastic straps. They will be donating the finished pieces to St. Mary Medical Center and Dayton General Hospital next week.
Truly serving others in times of need! Thank you, Mr. Rhode, and WWCS for taking action to help those who are helping others during this medical crisis. You are a BLESSING!
Thursday’s trivia question proposed by Mr. Rhode was:
